05/12/2011 - RKH completes acquisition of Mercury West Associates
Employee owned insurance and reinsurance broker R K Harrison Group today completed the acquisition of specialist high net worth broker Mercury West Associates (MWA) following completion of due diligence and the approval of the transaction from the Financial Services Authority.
Established in 2004, MWA specialises in servicing clients in entertainment and professional sports. It has particular expertise in high performance motor insurance and has established partnerships with several high profile associations including the Professional Footballers' Association.
MWA will work closely with R K Harrison's established high net worth team. MWA's high performance motor expertise provides a valuable new service to R K Harrison's existing clients, whilst MWA clients will benefit from the widest range of personal and business insurance services offered through the R K Harrison Group.
Mercury West Associates' Managing Director Katie Small maintains management responsibility for the development of MWA and will also join the management team of R K Harrison Insurance Services, the UK retail arm of the R K Harrison Group.
Commenting on the acquisition, Katie Small said: 'The high net worth sector now extends way beyond house contents and motor insurances traditionally associated with the sector. Clients expect a wide range of products and services specially designed around their lifestyles. They are used to the best. R K Harrison's broad based expertise will appeal to MWA clients.'
Stuart Rootham, Managing Director of R K Harrison Insurance Services added: 'High net worth insurance is an increasingly competitive arena, yet at that top level, the ability to deliver expert products with excellent service is really what makes the difference. MWA brings motor expertise as well as the opportunity to offer our broader expertise to new clients in the entertainment and professional sports industries. The synergies are clear.'

However, following last year's prolonged disruption some insurers have incorporated elements of cover for volcanic ash disruption. Should you require further clarification of your coverage through R K Harrison please contact your Account Executive or our Private Clients team on 01234 305555.
If cover is not provided under the terms of your travel insurance policy you should contact the tour operator or travel provider through whom your booking was made in the first instance.

16/03/2011 - Travel cover: Japan & Middle Eastern countries
Following the tragic earthquake and tsunami off the coast of Japan and the current unrest in the Middle East, we recommend the following course of action should you be planning to travel to one of these affected areas over the next few weeks:
- you visit the Foreign & Commonwealth Office website for the latest travel advice as to areas where it is safe to travel at www.fco.gov.uk. Please note that if you travel against the advice of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office your travel insurance will not provide cover.
- that you keep in close contact with your airline or tour operator who may be able to assist you with making alternative arrangements. If the trip is cancelled prior to departure by the airline or tour operator you will need to seek reimbursement from them, as this will not be covered by your travel insurance.
